Thanks Penny, this is exactly what I needed to read today. I’ve been low-key panicking / avoiding thinking too deeply about the summer weeks ahead, about the juggle of what I need and what my boys need. They need a sane mum ❤️

Love this. I'm in the 18th summer with my eldest so I'm taking this energy with me xo

I loved reading this, Penny. And you're right, writing happens in the pockets of time when we're doing the necessary and mundane. When we're aware of how the brain works, we can lean into these moments with more curiosity and hope....and that's a very creative space to be x

This is exactly what I needed to read today Penny, having woken up in a cold sweat having realised there’s only 2 weeks of term left. I’m used to writing in pockets of time during term time (the sidelines of a football pitch are surprisingly productive) and there’s no reason why I can’t carry on finding those pockets of time over the summer holidays!

I think this so important, Penny. My kids are 20, 20, and almost 18, so they don't require the care in the summer that they did. Now, I'm mostly trying to find out when they'll be home so that I can be there too:) But I spent many years trying to work and find time for myself around them, and it was always a struggle and required creativity. Sharing your own experience helps the rest of us. Thank you.

This is so helpful, thanks Penny. I'm on maternity leave and am really finding that writing the proposal for book two is exactly the escape you mention. Reading is the same; I've never read so voraciously!
