Laura your words are a beautiful balm and words are medicine to me as I move into post menopause. I too go up to the attic to write, but often stop by my bedroom on the way upstairs and write in my dressing gown on my bed, a throwback to my teenage self. My own mothering is still demanding but has shapeshifted as theyve grown and become young men, leaving an urgent space for me to write in…at last.
Thank you for sharing your writerly ways, writing around the edges of your life.
Beautiful words, I will try to remember these the next time I'm feeling harassed and far too busy - seeking calm in writing is so important for me too. 'I breathe in air, I breathe out words' - love this 💚
Great to read this morning, I’m currently in my hospital bed, new to substack but awake in the night, with words flowing reading for writing today, we must let the words out
So beautiful and encouraging to read. Last week I was reminded once again how the simple act of writing can lift burdens from my shoulders. Thank you for sharing.
I'm so glad I read this this morning! It's so important we hold space to write, and it's so good to remember that the space looks different for everyone. No matter what though I feel like holding space to write is an act of both self care and defiance when a thousand other things have to be done... but also of survival for those of us who live and breathe words. Thanks for sharing this. Wishing you many undisturbed writing hours in your writing/ thinking spaces 😊

‘An urgent space for me to write in’, I love that. Thank you for reading and sharing.
Gorgeously written, and for what it’s worth, you may work a bedraggled state on the school run, but you look fab in the shirt dress above!!
Aww, thank you so much! 💫🐆
