A short video about my next book

And why media skills are crucial for writers
7

Something that you will have heard me bang on quite a lot about, is the important role authors play in selling their own book. No matter how great a PR team you have, they still can’t sell your book like you can.

I thought I would share this short video I made for my publisher in Australia, to help them understand me, my background and HOME MATTERS a little better. This is pretty common practise in the industry and something many authors will do to help sales teams get passionate about books they may have had no hand in working on.

Mic and Cat interview ready

This is one of the many reasons I always recommend book coaching clients not forget to mention any media experience they have in their book proposals. Whether its key note speaking, live radio interviews, panel events at conferences, hosting or being a guest on podcasts or appearing on live TV. All of this experience will help show publishers that you can do the work of promoting and selling your book (even if its not your favourite thing in the whole world).

I often find that writers I’m working with have a vast amount of experience - particularly around teaching, lecturing and speaking - and don’t quite realise how valuable that is.

Now, I’m not going to go off and be a TV presenter anytime soon (ha!) but being able to knock out a video like this, or speak in front of an audience at an event, are really important skills for authors to have.
